Who Needs Stools and Glasses? Boozy Brits Invent Alcoholic Cloud

It has often been said that that the majority of things scientists and inventors do with their time is a complete waste. And a lot of the time, I agree with that sentiment. But the latest invention from wacky food and drink “architects” Bompas & Parr deserves a Nobel Prize if you ask me. The two mad scientists from England have invented the “walk in breathable cocktail” in the heart of London’s fashionable Soho district. The concept is quite simple – you can stroll around the room inhaling alcoholic vapours which get absorbed into your bloodstream and gradually make you drunk. And direct absorption of the alcohol, apparently, gets you far more drunk than drinking alone.

The device works by hooking up an industrial humidifier to a healthy supply of Hendrick’s Gin and tonic water. A humidifier is generally something you see (or don’t see) in industrial settings like printing presses or tobacco plants, where lack of humidity can cause problems. But normally of course you plug them into a supply of plain old water! The brains of Bompass and Parr, though, clearly work differently, and they came up with the idea of a boozy Turkish Bath where you get drunk just by walking around.

The company that provided the humidifier, JS Humidifiers, are specialists in air conditioners, heaters and the like, and would normally be the place to go for a ceiling fan or a portable air conditioner this summer. But given this crazy experiment I wonder if their summer sales will expand somewhat…!  And I wonder too how long it is before some trendy wine bar picks up on this novel idea and sets up a ‘walk in cocktail’ room on a permanent basis? Who knows, in a few years time this kind of ‘drinking’ could replace sitting around in the pub watching the TV. Personally, I’m not holiding my breath!
