Building sculpture need help please?
I have built a beautiful wire frame dragon head and I am not sure about what to coat it with (since paper Mache tends to look a bit cheap.) I also plan on painting it blue with hopefully a scale effect but am not sure of what kind of base coat/technique
Try insulation foam. You can get it at any hardware store. Artists are crazy about it. You spray it on your frame, wait for it to swell up and dry, then carve it into the shape you need. Give it a good prime coating, then paint it.
You have to practice with a can of it for something else so you get an idea of how much it swells up and how much it crumbles when you carve it. Use a serrated-edge knife to carve it. You also need to know that you have to use the entire can of it when you use any of it. Once you open the can the foam will swell in the tube, so you have to use it all up or you will lose what’s left in the can.
