What is a good book on Western art for beginners?
I am a jazz musician looking to get into visual art–paintings, sculptures, etc. I’m looking for a good book on Western art, one that includes a collection of work by famous artists as well as analysis of the work. Eventually I hope to be able to discern the meaning in works of visual art on my own, but as I’m new to this field, I need a little guidance first. Any suggestions?
Definately Helen Gardner’s Art book for a long while it was the only one, but you know why an original can dominate the market so long, its good?
