I recently purchased a sculpture of the Kiss by Brancusi where can I find info on this kind of art?
It is has a gold sticker underneath stating The Kiss, 1916 Brancusi Constantine dimensions Philadelphia Museum of Art The Louise and Walter Arensberg Collection Estate of Constantin Brancusi/Arts Right Society (ARS),NYPhotoc2002 Weird thing though-is it also has another persons name carved on the side ALVA Serlunbrkov? c 88 or 99 hard to tell Help this is driving me crazy not being able to find where this came from or what it is exactly
Sounds like a copy Brancusi did make many versions of the stone sculpture. I once had a whole book about it however it was never returned when lent out (don’t you hate that) bound to be more than one written about it.
While many editions of same work are around they would be worth millions and much documented your piece may be a copy which are often made under licence, hence the attribution on sticker, when major exhibitions are held of an artist work at major galleries. The other name on it may be the copyist name and date of manufacture. Look for a major exhibition of Brancusi’s work around that date in Philadelphia or New York.
