i want to make a large wire mesh sculpture? please help me!?
i want to make the image of a female body using wire mesh.
it will be able to stand. how do i use the wire mesh to form these shapes? i have never used it before but it looks very effective in photos. can you help?
also where would i get a lot of wire mesh from? i am based in portsmouth, england.
You can use “chicken wire” ,small hexagonal wire mesh.
Or larger square mesh with thicker wire.
Most D I Y stores will stock it or garden centres or Farming suppliers like Mole Valley Farmers.
Also purchase wire on a coil to snip and twist to join.
You may want to make an armature out of thicker wire, like coat hangers to attatch the mesh to.
I would suggest making a few makettes fist and deciding on pose/posture.
central balance can be compensated for by increasing or decreasing weight of wire mesh.ie you could make her stand on one leg by attatching a large plate to the sole of a foot and building the armature off that plate and then attatching and fixing the mesh around that armature.
I am a potter/sculptor/artist,i have made a ten foot sculpture of a self supporting Totempolefrom crank clay in sections.
I also sculpted a full size Wolf from sticks of wood and chicken wire and then set up a camera and walked to and from the sculpture and stuck masking tape just outside of that one view from the camera lens.
then i plasted the parts only from that view.
This meant that in the gallery entrance view he looked completely finished, but as you walked past that view you could see the chicken wire and then the wooden sticks .
I am on facebook or go to a site called ARTSIG and look up jameswolf/simon in the membership and click on my works there.
Or look up freewebs.com and look up Simon jameswolf Henry for a page or two of works.
