What’s the one wedding “luxury” that you think is a waste of money?
Think of it this way: If you were a billionaire and sky was the limit for your wedding budget, what’s the one thing that you STILL would not feature at your wedding because, rich or not, it is just a plain old waste of money?
For me, it’s ice-sculptures. In my opinion, they serve absolutely no purpose. They’re just there for random guests to walk by and go, “Oh look! A swan…. carved out of ice…hmmmm…. okay, now where’s the bar?” And they’re so expensive! I’d sooner take money, submerge it in water, freeze it, and then put it on center stage for everyone to watch it melt. It would probably have the same effect.
I can think of several. Though many will come to me later.
I completely agree with ice sculptures.
Like another person mentioned, multiple dress changes. Unless you are an Asian bride or someone who just likes alot of attention, women in real life don’t do such a thing.
The first thing that came to mind was chair covers. Yeah they look nice in pictures and when your guests first walk into the reception area but after they sit down, no one notices or cares about them.
Favors are definitely something that can be easily skipped and no one will miss them. If they aren’t edible or practical, the latter of which being incredibly expensive, then they are going to get tossed out.
Champagne is another one since many people actually don’t like it. Bartenders and waiters typically fill the glasses full and guests might drink one sip out of obligation and leave the rest go to waste.
The same for fondant on cakes. Many people say it looks pretty but it’s also expensive (and labor intensive for the baker) and hardly anyone actually eats it.
Another thing is a band. Bands are hit or miss and the better ones are out of most people’s price ranges. They have limited music which is going to be their own style and not necessarily what guests are used to hearing if they prefer hearing songs done in the style of the original artists. Plus, they have to take frequent breaks while a dj can continuously play music.
However, you should not skimp on professional photography since a relative who does it as a hobby won’t have the same skills and quality as a professional. If the pictures turn out badly, you not only risk damaging your relationship with that person but you can’t recreate the day.
