Sculpture Olympic Park

How did the Olympic Sculpture Park (Seattle Art Museum) get its name?

I don’t believe that Seattle has ever hosted the Olympic games.

This kind of stuff is actually a sore point with the Olympic committee – they hold the trademark on the word “Olympics”, and will not allow it to be used for any private company that does business outside of the state because they think it hurts the “Olympics” brand as it refers to the sports events.

So, “Olympic Sculpture Park” is OK as it refers to the Olympic mountains in Washington State because they do not do business out of state.

“Olympic Boat Center” is OK because they only sell boats in the state of Washington. But if a company grew to the point that they were doing business all up and down the west coast, or nationwide, they’d probably be forced to change their name to remove theh word “Olympic”.
