art history from 300-1600 CE?
I’m supposed to select two works of to research and compare. But I’m confused about this timeline. I’ve always heard BC (before Christ) and AD (after death) but in college for the first time I’m hearing CE (common era) and BCE (before common era). What are some signifigant points in the art world during this time line. I would like to cover something with architecture or sculpture. I’ve tried to research 300-1600 CE online but not having much luck
BCE/CE dating is just a new, politically-correct relabeling of BC/AD time. I’ve always thought it was stupid, but don’t let it confuse you. 300-1600 would cover all of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. That’s a pretty vast array of material to choose from! From what you say, it might be interesting to pick two cathedrals, one from each period — a gothic one and a renaissance one. I’ll leave the rest of the process up to you.
