The sculptures in the Temple of Seti in Egypt – is it true?
In the town of Abydos in Egypt, there is a temple called Seti.
Along one of the ceilings is a craving that seems to point to the existence of modern day machinery, eg planes, tanks, trucks, etc. Is all this true? If so, what happened to those machines? Why is it the ancient Egyptians never carry them forward to modern times? What caused the ancient Egyptians to fail? Why is the view of the Egyptian government and historians?
No it is not true. I’ve been to the Seti Temple myself and worked in the broader Abydos region. From what I’ve seen of the photos of the relief inscriptions with the “helicopter” and whatnot they are either a trick of light and distance as the inscription in question, from what I’ve been able to tell from the numerous websites spouting this information, is on a lintel piece or ceiling span or the photos have been retouched or the angle is such that it has warped some of the glyphs to appear to be what they are not.
I have noticed in examining the photos available on the internet that the hieroglyphs surrounding the “helicopter” etc are rather oddly stretched and not at all like what one would expect for the time period or the rest of the hieroglyphs in the temple. This suggests to me retouching of the photographs.
It should also be pointed out that the temple was reconstructed from the original fallen blocks during the early 20th Century. The blocks had been fallen for some time and were exposed to weathering and other damage which has blurred some of the glyphs and could lead someone who is not an expert to jump to conclusions that are not legitimate. Again, in examining the photographs available on-line the block in question seems to have been damaged slightly. And, again, the angle of the photo is a problem.
Suggestions that the ancient Egyptians were possessed of knowledge ahead of their times, assisted by aliens, descendants of Atlanteans, etc. is nothing new. The ancient Greeks were highly respectful of the even more ancient Egyptians. Arab and medieval Europeans were fascinated by what they knew of Egypt and despite an unfamiliarity with the language and an inability to translate hieroglyphs drew all sorts of conclusions about the ancient Egyptians. Indeed, part of the delay in a decipherment of ancient Egyptian stems from a belief that it was a magical or deeply symbolic script rather than an ordinary script used for writing an ordinary language.
The Egyptians were perfectly capable of building the monuments they did without outside assistance or special abilities. Nor were they possessed of “modern” technology or machines. There has been no other substantiated evidence of engines or flying vehicles in ancient Egypt in the past 200 years or so of digging.
There are those who will say that I am wrong and that is a possibility. Many of the people who publish books about ancient aliens, Atlanteans, and the “helicopter” of Abydos, etc. would say that I am part of the “establishment” as I am a senior graduate student in Egyptology/archaeology (MA degree and all but dissertation at this point). That’s fine. But I’ve looked at all of the things they’ve suggested and presented as evidence and I cannot share their conclusions based on my own knowledge and experience.
