Making mold for the first time?
Hi guys! It’s my GCSE Art exam next Wednesday!
My final piece is going to be similar to Ron Mueck’s sculptures.
But this is my first time doing it.
I have NO idea how to start – all I know is that I need to make an armature, then cover (and shape) it with mesh.
Then I’m going to put dental plaster.
Then paint Shellac all over it, then put the clay – then Shellac again. xD
Of course, I’m going to build a wooden support for it. . .
BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW TO USE MOLD-MAKERS AND FIBERGLASS RESIN!
AND HOW TO COLOUR THEM?!
AND WHAT ELSE DO I NEED???
I need an experienced mold-maker.
No, you need a lot of experience – if you read Mueck’s bio you will find he was making theater/movie props for years before he got into sculpture and if you look at his videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTy5cORM3CI you will find that he does repeated copies to test how it will look. And you want someone to tell you about delicate using of materials you haven’t even tried.
