What are the tradition proportions and measurements used in Michealangelo’s sculpture of David Please?

Would anyone here in Y/A like to enlighten or share with me on what are the tradition methods use for Proportions and Measurements in human figure, example the Sculpture of David by Michelangelo Buonarroti one of the three great Renaissance masters please? Thanks you…

usually it goes by size of the head as a reference.
Just look yourself:

or for more look through http://www.google.com/search?q=human%20figure%20proportions%20art&um=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=iw

Michelangelo’s David is not the best example to study for human proportions, the most common explanation is that the statue was meant to be viewed from below, therefore the artist exaggerated the size of the upper parts to make up for the effect of an unusual perspective.
