1 The “Ile de France” was the center of the creation of the Gothic. The major early efforts were at Saint Denis (Abbot Suger), Notre Dame de Chartres, and Notre Dame de Paris (Maurice de Sully). The use of flying buttresses made it possible to make larger windows which let in more light, moderated by the extensive use of stained and painted glass.
#3 In a pilgrimage church, you wanted to get as close to the relics as possible. The relics were usually kept near the high altar, and in a Romanesque Church there was no way of getting to them without disturbing the priests or monks at worship in the Sanctuary. With an ambulatory, you could avoid the Choir entirely (and they built all sorts of screens and choir stalls to make sure that you did), and get behind the High Altar where the relics were (as at Westminster Abbey, for instance, where the tomb of St. Edward is directly behind the high altar, or as at Canterbury, where the tomb of St. Thomas was once behind the high altar as well).
The other questions are major essay questions, that can’t be answered here.
