Question for people who know a lot about Egyptian art?

So there was this question on an art exam:

Why was Egypt able to develop distinctive styles of architecture, painting, and sculpture for nearly 2500 years?
a)deserts on both sides of the Nile
b)powerful leadership
c)too much rain

Which is the answer? The reason I ask is that my art teacher says it’s A, while I believe it’s B. I think powerful leadership has a hand in creating the culture, and the culture creates the art, while the deserts sort of stand there and have a sandstorm every once in a while. Also, it seems to me like this question is more about the longevity of the style than the origin of the style itself, in which case…wouldn’t that be attributed to the stability of its government?

Let me know. I don’t want to fight my teacher about this, but if I’m right I don’t want to be graded unfairly.

I think both of you are correct. Your teacher is emphasizing that the deserts protected Egypt from being invaded. So they were safe, and able to develop their own culture.

However, the pharaohs did have strong say over the style of art. The Pharaoh Seti I was a brilliant patron of the arts, the draftsmanship in the temples he built is superb. His son, Ramses II didn’t care about quality, he wanted quantity. He built many huge temples but they are not nearly as beautiful as the ones his father built.
