How do you describe renaissance era sculptures?
I am doing a history project, and my group and I are stuck. We have to describe how sculptures of the renaissance time period are different from sculptures today. so far we have…
“During the renaissance, sculptures were often of nude male figures. Now, sculptures are of abstract objects, not necessarily of a real thing.”
PLEASE HELP US! We are stuck!
*Thank you so much, you have no idea how greatful we are of help.
Renaissance sculptures were always representational (showing realistic figures), and influenced by Greek/Roman originals. Who says that modern sculptures are of abstract objects? That’s a sweeping generalisation and your examiner will not be happy to see that put in black and white. You can contrast the male-obsessed era of the Renaissance with its adoration of the male figure based on the Classical model, with the 20th century exploration of abstraction (Henry Moore, Barbara Nicholson and so on) and the Post-Modern works of Antony Gormley and Anthony Quinn.
